Come December and one finds most Christians on a shopping frenzy. Shopping for clothes, shopping for shoes, shopping for gifts, shopping for food, something like shop till you drop. Then there is the house to be spruced, cards to be sent and the Whatsapp and twitter keep us busy exchanging greetings. But what’s the real reason for Christmas? The pre-primary students of Aquinas International School very animatedly brought out the real reason for Christmas through a skit during their Christmas celebrations. They asked: “What is the real reason for Christmas? Is it the Christmas tree and the presents under it? Is it about new clothes may be premium designer wear, is it the sumptuous dinners may be with turkey and dancing? Is it wishing Merry Christmas on Whatsapp or twitter? A little angel entered and said, No, No, No. The real reason for Christmas is the birth of baby Jesus who brings us love, peace and joy.” How true!!! For many people, Christmas is a time of sorrow. They don't have the extra money to buy presents for their children, family, and friends. Many are saddened at Christmastime when they think of their loved ones who will not be able to come home for various reasons. Dinners may be only a wish and not a reality for some. Yet, Christmas can be a season of great joy. It is a time of God showing His great love for us. It can be a time of healing and renewed strength. Christmas is when we celebrate the birth of the Jesus, God becomes human, God-with us, God-one-of us, God emptied himself of his divinity to take on humanity so that humanity could become divine. Jesus means “God saves.” His birth brought great joy to the world. Prophets had told of His coming hundreds of years before, Angels sang announcing His birth, Shepherds rushed to see Him, Wise men followed the star, the star stopped over Bethlehem just to mark the way for those who were looking for this special child. We can truly be happy at Christmas no matter what may be happening around us, if we believe and live as God’s children. When we put on Christ, and we reach out in love and service to the less fortunate, the lonely, sick, and bereaved, we then become sons and daughters of God and heaven will be our home one day. Let’s look at Christmas in a new way this year. This is the year to invite Jesus into your heart. You will then have a truly Blessed Christmas. The joy and peace you receive at Christmas will not cease with Christmas day but will last all year as you walk every day with Jesus. Jesus Is The Reason For The Season! Rejoice! Have a super duper Christmas with Jesus all you dear parishioners!
